About the researchers
Dr Stefan Fafinski and Dr Emily Finch have extensive experience in social science projects and in organising large-scale attitudinal research. Emily was the lead researcher on an ESRC-funded project into jury decision-making in rape trials that made use of focus groups and trial simulations. Both researchers have published widely in the field of criminal law and have experience of using and developing a range of empirical research methods and in qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
Emily is currently a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Surrey. She won the 2005 British Science Association Joseph Lister Award for her work on identity fraud. She has a first class degree in law and doctorate from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. She is a Member of the European Association of Psychology and Law, the British Computer Society and the Fraud Advisory Panel and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Stefan is currently a Research Fellow at the University of Leeds and a Visiting Fellow of the Oxford Internet Institute in the University of Oxford. He is a Chartered Scientist, a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the British Computer Society. He won the 2006 British Science Association Joseph Lister Award for his work on e-crime. Stefan holds a Bachelor of Laws degree with first-class honours and a Masters degree in Natural Sciences from St John's College, University of Cambridge. His doctorate in criminal law was conducted within the Centre for Criminal Justice Studies at the University of Leeds.
